    Rap superstar, real name Calvin Broadus, filed for divorce from his wife of seven years in 2004, citing irreconcilable differences. The couple reunited months later, prompting Snoop to withdraw the legal petition, and they renewed their vows in 2008. Snoop admits the turning point in their relationship came when young Cori was diagnosed with the autoimmune disorder in 2005 - and her subsequent health battle made the hip-hop star and his wife realize they had to stay "together forever".amazing how this all turned out.  We."

    Snoop adds, "That's what it boiled down to. Cori's lupus showed us we need to be together forever."

  • 11/24/09 - Julian Lennon & James Scott Cook "Band Together" for Lupus

    Julian LennonJulian Lennon, son of the legendary John Lennon, and James Scott Cook have teamed up to help support lupus research. Between December 15, 2009 and March 15, 2010 they will donate 100 percent of the proceeds from their new digital single, "LUCY," to the Lupus Foundation of America (LFA) and the Saint Thomas' Lupus Trust in London.

    "LUCY" is now available for download from iTunes.

    Both artists have a personal connection to lupus. James' 92-year-old grandmother, Lucy Cook, has lived with lupus for many years, and Julian's childhood friend, Lucy Vodden, passed away in September at the age of 46 after a long battle with lupus. You may have heard the story that years ago Julian brought home from school a drawing he had made of his classmate Lucy Vodden. He told his dad that the drawing was Lucy in the sky with diamonds. This inspired his father to write one of The Beatles' most famous songs.

    Check out Amanda Davenport on Fox's Hell's Kitchen every Tuesday at 8:00 EST/7:00 CST. Amanda is a 27-year-old Sous Chef based in New York City who has lupus. Every week Amanda and 15 other contestants will be put throughrigorous ulinary challenges competing for the grand prize of a Head Chef position at Araxi Restaurant in Whistler, British Columbia, Canada.Amanda is an active supporter of the Lupus Foundation of America, and recently participated in the NYC Walk for Lupus Now.

    Launch Highlights
    As you may recall, on March 31st LFA spokesperson Mercedes Yvette participated in a series of television and radio interviews around the country with Frances Ashe-Goins from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office on Women’s Health to launch the first-ever lupus Ad Council campaign.  They did a great job talking about the need for the campaign and educating people about the disease.

  • Montel Williams Radio Show – On May 14th Dr. Gary Gilkeson appeared live on Montel Williams’ new national radio show broadcast on Air America. The program was part of a special women’s health series. The interview focused on discussing lupus, its symptoms, and how to manage the disease. 
  • Arthritis Health Monitor –  Arthritis Health Monitor is a free publication distributed in doctors’ offices across the country, and provides self-management tips and the latest in arthritis news and research. The Spring 2009 edition features a profile on Randall Winston, LFA Board Member and producer of the hit television series Scrubs. The story focuses on Randall’s relationship with his sister Karen Winston-Wilson, who has lupus, and how lupus brought them closer together, and changed their lives forever.
